Septic Systems

We do not recommend pouring ACID Magic directly into a septic system. ACID Magic has a very low pH that is not ideal for bacteria in a septic system. Use at your own risk. However, after speaking to septic system companies and lab testing, the following are our suggestions. READ INSTRUCTIONS IN THEIR ENTIRETY BEFORE PROCEEDING.

Septic system companies recommend minimizing the amount of chemicals that are put down drains. The best way to use Acid Magic for those on septic systems, is to virtually eliminate its presence in the septic system. Use the least amount of Acid Magic to do the job at hand and then neutralize the remaining residues before allowing it to be flushed into the septic system.

• (Optional) Mask off or protect metal fixtures if you think the acid will come into contact with them. Take extra care with galvanized or coated metals and aluminum.

• Clean the bowl thoroughly before adding Acid Magic and flush several times to remove all cleaning chemicals.

• Carefully pour about 3oz of Acid Magic into the clean water of the bowl.

• If the stain is around the water line, you may also add some extra water to bring the water line up. This will allow the Acid Magic solution to be in contact with the stain.

• Allow ACID Magic to do the work. It may take a several minutes depending on the nature and degree of the stain and how long it has been there.

• (Optional) After several minutes use a brush to scrub around the edges to loosen deposits or to lift the solution to stains higher than the water line.

• Once the stains are dissolved, you must neutralize the solution in the bowl before flushing the toilet. See neutralizing instructions below.

• Continue to keep the active ventilation going until the project is completed and until all fumes have been removed. Fumes lingering around metal fixtures and appliances can cause them to become tarnished.

Gradually sprinkle baking soda one teaspoon at a time into the bowl. There will be a fizzing reaction. Wait until the fizzing stops and then add another teaspoon of baking soda making sure to cover all areas of the bowl. Repeat this until there is no more fizzing reaction. Once the baking soda has been equally dispersed and the fizzing has stopped it is safe to flush the toilet. Flush several times to insure no residue is left behind.

Use this same neutralizing procedure with other jobs. Acid Magic is safe on porcelain, glass, fiberglass and many tiles. Avoid contact with metals, wood, fabric, nylon, some plastics. Always test in an inconspicuous area first before you begin. For your safety, wear chemical resistant gloves and eye protection, You may wish to contact your local septic system company for further information.

While using ACID Magic, protective eyewear and gloves are always required.

• Active ventilation is required when working indoors. Failure to provide adequate ventilation can cause discoloration to metal or metal plated surfaces.

• When diluting, ALWAYS add the ACID Magic to water, NOT water to the ACID Magic. This eliminates the potential of an unwanted reaction that may cause dangerous splashing to occur.

• Do not apply to dry surfaces. Always wet surface prior to application, including any adjoining areas, in case of accidental spillage or overspray.

• Do not allow the surface to dry with ACID Magic solution on it.

• Use caution when applying ACID Magic to avoid contact with other surfaces, such as wood or metal, as an unwanted reaction and discoloration of surfaces could occur.
